Loop 289 is a multi-lane beltway servicing Lubbock as a freeway. The highway serves as the southern end for I-27 on the south side of the city. Loop 289 as spur that splits off that connects to US 62/ US 82, called Spur 327, on the southwest side of the city. The highway passes about a mile south of the Lubbock Airport on the northside near the intersection with Interstate 27.
Loop 289 is a complete loop freeway with 4 to 8 mainlanes. The freeways has frontage roads for nearly the entire route. It is one of the only 3 complete freeway loops in Texas, the other 2 being IH-610 and BW-8/Sam Houston Tollway in Houston. At certain junctions, the freeway widens up to serve exit only lanes. At most interchanges with other highways, there are partial to full access ramps, that directly serve the mainlanes or frontage roads. An interchange is being built on the southwest side of the city with US 82 as part of the Marsha Sharp Freeway construction project.
The entire route is located in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. Counter-clockwise reads down and clockwise reads up.
